19 May 2022

Plans are under way to host mini Kuru dance festival in August.

Kuru Development Trust coordinator, Mr Mangana Mangana said in an interview that the trust was in conversation with Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and culture as custodians of culture regarding hosting of mini Kuru dance festival billed for August.Mr Mangana said the mini festival was expected to be held at the culture centre in D’kar and the festival was expected to feature local artists.

Meanwhile, Mr Mangana said the D’ kar based  trust was experiencing administration crisis, which had paralysed the trust.

He said owing to the crisis, revenue generating project remained non-operational particularly the game farm called Dqae Qare.

This, Mr Mangana, said meant that the trust’s assets were no longer generating wealth or benefiting the community.

In light of the crisis, he said Kuru Art Project, which was one of the lifelines of the trust had to part ways with the development trust.

Mr Mangana detailed that the trouble engulfing the Kuru development trust was caused by misuse of power and possibly the misappropriation of funds by some officials.

Allegations of misuse of power, he said led to the suspension of board chairperson.

Regrettably, he said the suspended chairperson was still in possession of the trust assets including a short gun and 375 raffle as well as game farm vehicle and had locked the farm.

Mr Mangana stated that the trust had engaged attorneys to approach courts of law to seek an order for the suspended chairperson to hand over the trust assets so that operations of the farm could resume.

He said surprisingly few days after the chairperson’s suspension, the farm manager submitted resignation letter but he left without handing over.

Mr Mangana said the trust was recently shocked to receive summons from Bank Gaborone of over P600 000.

However, he said the trust had no access to records or funds because there had been no handing over.Ends
