Construction of a water treatment plant for Boteti South cluster of villages commences next month, Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane told residents of Rakops and Khumaga during kgotla meetings Thursday.
The project, planned to take 12 months, would bring to an end water shortage in the villages of Mokobaxane, Mopipi, Xhumo, Toromoja, Kedia, Xere, Mmadikola and Rakops villages, he said.
It would also resolve the problem of salinity, he said. Mr Tsogwane also informed the residents that awarding of the tender for Makalamedi-Motopi road would be done soon.
On other issues Mr Tsogwane advised residents of Khumaga that appointment of chiefs had to be done through the Bogosi Act.
He added that requests for renewal of contract for chiefs could not be done by the tribe, but by the applicants.
Furthermore, a post for which an applicant was awaiting response for renewal of contract could not be filled until the applicant had received the response.
Mr Tsogwane said he would make follow up on renewal of contracts for chiefs in the villages since most of the posts were vacant.
Mr Tsogwane was responding to Khumaga Village Development Committee chairperson Ms Kesebelwang Goratwang who wanted the post of the village chief filled.
One residents, Mr Hendrick Radijo complained that their chiefs’ contract was not renewed, yet there was no replacement. ends
