Government to improve Barolong water situation
16 May 2022
Government, through Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) is planning to build water tanks in most of Southern District villages in efforts to augment supply and deal with issues of salinity.
WUC’s General Manager, Mr Mpho Tsotetsi said this when responding to complaints about salty water from Mokgomane residents during a kgotla meeting addressed by area MP, Mr Eric Molale.
“We are trying to help with the augmentation plan of the Good Hope water supply Phase 1, which includes Mokgomane and Sedibeng, and all the other villages, all the way to Sekhutlhane”, he said.
Mr Tsotetsi said the tender for the project had already been awarded.
“The intention is to build water tanks in most of the villages. We hope this will help to address some of the concerns,” he said.
Meanwhile, BOCRA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Martin Mokgware told residents that the authority was installing network infrastructure in all the villages in the constituency, to ensure realisation of the government’s promise to provide free internet in primary schools, dikgotla and clinics in all villages accross the country.
Mr Mokgware said government planned to fully embrace the 4IR, and the idea was to eventually have learners use tablets in school, which would greatly help in their research work. He added BOCRA would pay the bill for the usage of internet for the initial three years.
He also said that work was ongoing to enhance reception of local radio stations in the area, which he hoped would be complete before the end of July this year.
He urged the residents to look after the infrastructure, adding thieves and vandals had already started stealing and destroying it.
Meanwhile, Mr Molale urged different departments to always take services to the people and not wait for him to call meetings to learn about residents’ grievances as some did not need his intervention. bopa
