Residents of Mokgomane and Sedibeng villages in the Southern District have complained about salty water in their areas.
They aired their complaints during a meeting by the area MP, Mr Eric Molale on Tuesday May 10.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Tswelelo Kgopolo of Mokgomane told the MP and his entourage that residents had been grappling with salty water since time immemorial.
This was also reiterated by his counterpart in Sedibeng.
In response, Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) General Manager, Mr Mpho Tsotetsi said the corporation was alive to the problem and was working to rectify it.
“We are trying to help with the augmentation plan of the Good Hope water supply Phase 1, which includes Mokgomane and Sedibeng, amongst other villages, all the way to Sekhutlhane”, he said.
Mr Tsotetsi made it known that the tender for the project had been awarded and work would commence mid-May.
“The intention is to construct water tanks in most of the villages in the southern district, which we think will greatly help,” he said.
Meanwhile, BOCRA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Martin Mokgware told residents that the organisation was installing infrastructure in all the villages in the constituency, to enable them to access free internet in primary schools, dikgotla and clinics.
He said the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, who is the patron of Smart Botswana, had emphasised proper network for every village in Botswana.
Mr Mokgware said that every learner would also have a tablet, to enable them to do research and other school work, adding that after installation, BOCRA would pay for the internet for three years.
He also revealed that work was on to enhance reception of local radio stations in the area, which he hoped would be complete before the end of July this year.
He urged the residents to look after the infrastructure, revealing that in some areas, thieves had already started stealing and vandalising it.
Meanwhile, Mr Molale urged different departments to always take services to the people and not wait for him to call meetings to know residents’ grievances as some do not need his intervention. Ends
