Chinese businessman robbed in Maun

A 57-year-old Chinese businessman was attacked and robbed of cash amounting to P30 000, a camera and phone all worth P14 000 at his house at Thito ward in Maun on Sunday night.

Maun police station commander, Superintendent Chenamo Orateng said a group of five unknown men stormed the victims’ residence around 11pm and took away cash and valuable belongings before fleeing the scene.

He said the victim, together with his wife, were sleeping adding that fortunately, there were no casualties.

He said no arrests had been made so far and investigations into the matter were still on going.

Supt Orateng explained that the duo run a business at old mall shopping complex and warned the business community to stop keeping large amounts of money at their homes.

Still in Maun, police are investigating a rape incident, in which a 22-year-old woman was attacked and allegedly raped by an unknown man while on her way home.

Supt Orateng explained that the victim was walking home from visiting her relatives at Boseja ward around 9.30pm and along the way, she met a certain man who pointed a knife at her.

The perpetrator, he said dragged the victim to the nearby bush raped her and took her cellphone before disappearing. 

The victim reported the matter to the police. He said they police was appealing  to members of the community to assist in the search of the culprit.

Supt Orateng decried that rape cases continued to rise despite police efforts to fight it, adding that last month they recorded 13 cases.

“The statistics are worrisome as they indicate that rape remains a concern in our policing area and women are more vulnerable compared to their male counterparts,” he added. Ends
