WUC donates bus shelters

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has donated two bus shelters worth about P86 000 to Samochima in the Okavango sub district.
Speaking at the handing over of these facilities on Monday at Samochima village, WUC Head of Business Center-Maun, Mr Thabo Ndadi said the corporation assisted communities in its area of service through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
WUC, he said was therefore not only about provision of water and waste water management but was concerned about the lives of the communities in its entirety.
Mr Ndadi said the bus shelters would help protect public transport users in Samochima from harsh weather conditions such as rains and heat.
He said that WUC engaged local companies to construct the shelters as a way to support small businesses.
Mr Ndadi observed that WUC remained committed to its CSR although it had challenges of finances in achieving its primary objectives.
He said the company recently held a sponsored walk at Mohembo which was aimed to assist Phomolong Centre, a Non-Governmental Organisation based in Shakawe.
He implored the people of Samochima to preserve water and avoid damaging standpipes and watering animals.
The corporation, he said would keep improving its services and would extend its services to the other side of Samochima once roads were demarcated.
In her remarks, Okavango Sub District Assistant Commissioner, Ms Gaehetswe Maphakwane appreciated the donations.
Ms Maphakwane said the shelter were a welcome development as they would help protect public transport users from harsh conditions and improve the outlook of the village.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Osenotse Koloi of Samochima thanked WUC for its continuous support to communities in the Okavango sub district.
Kgosi Koloi said the shelters would help improve the lives of the people of Samochima and further urged the villagers to take good care of the structures. Ends
