Discipline key quality for success
03 May 2022
Discipline is one of the qualities that successful people possess and should therefore be taught to children at an early age, says Major Khumo Victor of Botswana Defence Force (BDF).
Speaking at the closing of a five-day Sojwe Primary School boot camp, he said the programme entailed teaching Standard Seven leaners the importance of discipline in passing final examinations and shaping their future.
Time management, self-confidence and good hygiene were also part of being disciplined, Major Victor stated.
He advised the pupils to start preparing for their school leaving examinations stressing that everything depended on preparations.
Held in partnership with Broadcasters Organisation and sponsored by Botswana Insurance Company (BIC), the purpose of the boot camp was to groom and prepare pupils for the outside world.
Major Victor commended the facilitators for their selflessness in educating and moulding the pupils.
“What you have taught is valuable and it will guide the pupils to make better decisions,” he said.
Another speaker at the ceremony, Botswana Insurance Company business development manager, Ms Neo Thipe said the partnership between the school and Broadcasters Organisation was proof that it took a village to raise a child.
She pointed out that BIC had always believed in Broadcasters Organisation’s work hence the support.
“We believe in you and the work you are doing in schools,” she said.
One of the facilitators, Mr Phenyo Mokaba, thanked BIC for supporting and sponsoring the boot camp.
He also thanked BDF personnel for taking time to instill discipline in the pupils saying it was beneficial both in and out of school.
Mr Mokaba said BDF’s presence inspired some pupils to aspire to become soldiers.
He commended parents for allowing their children to attend the boot camp.
It would help them in their studies as well as moulding them into upright citizens, said Mr Mokaba.BOPA
