MPs should emulate councillors Saleshando

Putting aside political differences will help advance ambitions of Ngamiland community and drive developments, says Member of Parliament for Maun West, Mr Dumelang Saleshando.
Mr Saleshando, who graced the special full council meeting on Friday, expressed gratitude that the councillors had proved that indeed they had a common goal, which was to represent the aspirations of the people.
“My interest was to appreciate your discussions and I am so impressed with your cooperation when deliberating on common issues that affect our people.
You went beyond your political egocentricity to effectively and efficiently discuss pertinent issues that affect our people with one voice.
This is so commendable,” he added.
Mr Saleshando wished Parliamentarians could emulate what the councillors were doing and desist from taking sides when debating pertinent issues that could benefit the nation.
He said Parliament represented the highest expression of democratic will of its citizens, noting that in a functioning democracy, political leaders were expected to represent public interest and to be accountable to those who elected them.
He wished Members of Parliament in their deliberations could stop being blinded by party affiliations and focus on facilitating developmental issues.
He further noted that some legislators often had good ideas which ended up being shot down only because of their party affiliations.
Mr Saleshando encouraged councillors to continue promoting effective debates to find solutions to challenges in the district.
Council chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho thanked Mr Saleshando for embracing the council session and assured him that they would continue to work hard to make a difference in people’s lives.
He also emphasised the need for political and administration wings to work as a team to achieve the desired results.
He said working in silos or according to party colours could frustrate their developmental efforts.
“You will agree with me that if we work individually, we will not be able to meet the expectations of our people, hence the need for us to work as a team,” he added. ENDS
