Women football needs the support of Business Botswana, non-governmental organisations, government and all stakeholders for it to flourish. 

A supporter of the senior women football team, the Mares, Aucillia Letshwiti said this when donating trainers and t-shirts to the team on Tuesday. 

Lamenting the inadequate funding of women football, Letshwiti said it was important for the nation to rally behind the Mares. 

She said she was confident that women could do anything that men could do, including qualifying for major international competitions. 

Letshwiti, however, thanked Botswana Football Association (BFA) leadership for taking women football seriously. 

“I trust this is only the beginning of greater things to come, so ladies go and capture the world, we are with you,” she said. 

For his part, BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo, said in every cycle, FIFA gave out money to member associations to run the operations, adding that the ‘message was that we have to make sure that we are biased towards women football in the increase that we will be getting from FIFA.’ ends
