President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has implored Bophirima ward voters to vote for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidate, Ms Onkemetse Mothei, in tomorrow’s by-election.
“Ms Mothei is born and bred in this ward and has shown interest to serve you, and her passion as a community builder led her to serve in community structures like the ward development committee and other community projects resonating with the needs and challenges of the society,” he said during his walkabout in the Gaborone Bonnington North ward yesterday.
Dr Masisi described the BDP candidate as a hardworking young woman ready to advocate for the interests of the community.
“It is important to vote for the BDP candidate for her to continue with implementing community projects like rehabilitation and construction of internal road, installation of tower lights and to be at the forefront of issues concerning Gender Based Violence, drug abuse and crime in Bophirima,” he said.
Ms Mothei, he said, represented the party’s virtues which Batswana had subscribed to over the years by retaining the BDP in power since independence.
He encouraged Bophirima ward voters to remain resolute on the BDP-led government explaining that the party’s message, as in the past general elections, remained centred on its manifesto which was easily understood by the electorate.
“As the BDP we are committed to ensuring that we advance together towards a more inclusive economy hence the introduction of the economic inclusion bill which aims to promote the effective participation of targeted citizens in the growth and development of the economy and to facilitate enforcement of the economic empowerment initiatives,” he said.
Dr Masisi said government remained steadfast in improving Batswana’s livelihoods by growing the private sector to make it competitive and productive as well as through enhancement of the ease of doing business in Botswana.
He said as the ruling party, the BDP had laid a strong foundation of national unity and true democracy characterised by consultation and transparency.
Dr Masisi pleaded with Batswana to keep faith in the BDP in its journey to lead Botswana to its second transformation which was centred on a knowledge-based economy and infrastructure development that would create job opportunities for Batswana. ENDS
