Assessment subject to funds availability
04 Apr 2022
Assessment for both network extensions in electrified villages and new village electrification, as advised by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security and Botswana Power Corporation, are reviewed on an annual basis subject to availability of funds.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, Minister Lefoko Moagi said electrification of villages was an ongoing and phased programme under which non-electrified villages such as Lepashe were considered for electrification, alongside network extensions in electrified villages to cater for village growth. Therefore, he said Lepashe would be considered for electrification alongside other villages in subsequent village electrification projects.
Minister Moagi added that the rate of electrification was also dependent on the availability of funds, especially that a number of projects were put on hold the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga, wanted to know when Lepashe would be electrified as was promised and the cause of the delay in the electrification process.ENDS
