Water Utilities Corporation has been commended for giving back to the community during a handover of three refurbished bus stop shelters at Mabalane and Ramonaka in Mochudi East Constituency.
The branded bus stop shelters were refurbished at a cost of P87 756. MP for Mochudi East, Mr Mabuse Pule said it was pleasing that despite challenges faced by the corporation, they did not forget their socio-business imperative of giving back to their communities.
“Today as we receive this project, we bear testimony that indeed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a pivotal role at WUC hence sacrificing the income they get from water and sharing it with us,” he stated.
He said the shelters were meant to ensure travelers had dignified shades while waiting for public transport and that on the other hand the branded shelters relayed messages of water conservation and services offered by WUC.
Mr Pule encouraged residents to look after the shelters so that they can be used by future generations. Mochudi WUC general manager, Mr Moses Dikgang said the donation was an appreciation of the community they served.
He said the decision to refurbish shelters was taken by WUC’s CSR team after meeting Village Development Committees and Dikgosi regarding the urgent needs of their communities.
He said the branded shelters served as a campaign to educate residents about water saving and payment of bills through self-service platforms.
Mr Dikgang said the project was one of the footprints that the corporation wanted to leave as a legacy to the river villages.
“The donation is a physical asset intended to be used from today and into the future, It shall also not require maintenance if used properly during its entire lifetime,” he stated. He also stated that the project was undertaken by locals as a way of empowering them and that it was completed within set timelines. ends
