Boteti Bikers Club on Saturday March 26 donated personal hygiene and stationary items as well as electronic equipment to four schools in Letlhakane.
The recipients included Motsumi Junior Secondary School, Seaseole, Mokane and Rethatoleng primary schools while the gifts included; sanitisers, sanitary pads, liquid soap, water bottles, book covers, shoes, masks, photocopying machines, computers, brooms and bowls.
The club, which collaborated with other motorcycle enthusiasts, clubs, Debswana, Lucara mines, Engen Filling Station, Mikelele Motel and Thwaza Vintage Garden, engaged in a similar exercise last year and donated COVID-19 consumables to Supang Primary School.
Boteti Bikers Club president, Mr Star Seaman said the club was a group of close-knit friends who shared the love of cycling.
He said the club allowed them relaxation time and to have fun together while exploring different parts of the country and at the same time, teaching people about road safety.
Mr Seaman said the group wished to do more than just ride bikes, that is why they came up with an idea of helping the less privileged members of the community.
“We have a passion to ride, but we also wanted to take it further and help the community.
All schools have children whose parents cannot afford to provide for them. So, it is our responsibility to do what we can to help. It is about children and we want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful,” stated Mr Seaman.
He said helping others was not about getting recognition, but to put a smile on children’s faces.
Letlhakane Sub-district chaiperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe thanked the riders for the gifts.
Mr Galeragwe said road safety was a concern, especially riders involved in accidents with motorists, and appealed to them to always wear protective clothing when riding.
The day was preceded by a charity ride. Ends
