Sixty-eight win hunting licenses in Kweneng

24 Mar 2022

Sixty-eight have won hunting licenses in Kweneng District for hunting season that starts on April 5 until September 13 .
The winners were among 1611 people who had shown interest in the licenses and were  selected during a raffle which was at  Molepolole Kgotla recently.

Speaking during the raffle, Kgosi Kgari III of Bakwena expressed happiness that there was transparency and fairness as the event was held in a kgotla.
He said the kgotla was an ideal place as it was open for everyone and was also a platform that could be used to uplift the lives of Batswana.

In an interview, Kweneng District Wildlife Officer, Mr Thebeyakgosi Horatius encouraged Batswana to always try their luck and apply for hunting licenses, saying opportunities like these could improve their lives.
He said the idea to hold hunting raffle was to reduce congestion of animals in wildlife control areas, adding it was also aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflict.

Mr Horatius urged Batswana to report incidents of damages on their property caused by wildlife saying this was a major factor in determining animals to be hunted.
Botswana Prisons Assistant Superintendent Molemisi Ramolefhe urged licence holders to abide by the rules and only hunt animals and numbers stipulated in their licences.
“You should hunt only the required amount, not more,” he said.

The animals to be hunted include the eland, ostrich, gemsbok, springbok and hartebeest. ENDS
