23 Mar 2022

President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has conferred the title of ambassador-in-situ on four citizens.

They are Dr Gladys Mokhawa, Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation permanent secretary, Ms Benetia Chingapane, the ministry’s chief of protocol, Professor Mpho Molomo, Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration secretary for political affairs and SADC Mission in Mozambique head as well as Mr Charles Tibone, SADC Panel of Elders member.

A Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation media release says the four were  granted the title in recognition of their dedication to national service, contributions in advancing Botswana’s interests abroad and promoting the country as an influential and respected member of the international community.

It explains that the title is usually conferred on home-based officials in recognition of their talents, qualities, abilities and commitment by which they have distinguished themselves in both national and international service.

Conferment of such a title is mostly meant to facilitate the individuals in the performance of their duties which usually involve an international dimension.

“The persons are thereafter addressed as ambassador and the conferment of the title on the four is with immediate effect,” says the release. BOPA
