NWDC submits 27 resolutions
23 Mar 2022
Implementation of council resolutions are subject to approved plans such as annual budgets, District Development Plans, National Spatial Plan 2036, National Development Plans, policies and laid down procedures.
“As such, implementation is usually dictated by availability of resources,” Minister of Local Government and Rural Development assistant minister, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele told Parliament.
Mr Modukanele further told Parliament that his ministry had received 27 resolutions from the North West District Council (NWDC) between June 2018 and December 2021.
Twenty-two out of the 27 resolutions have been responded to and concluded, while five were pending, he said
He added that the ministry had progressed with resolutions adopted and passed by NWDC, particularly the approval of the recognition of Xhaoga settlement in 2013 which was communicated to the council on August 14, 2013.
Regarding incorporation of Mochaba into Shorobe and Xhana into Chanoga, he said the ministry, through an Inter-Ministerial Standing Committee, which was established under the
Revised National Settlement Policy of 2004, was in the process of finalising the district’s request in order to submit recommendations to Cabinet for consideration.
“I must acknowledge the delays in processing this request, as it is going against the spirit and principles of the National Spatial Plan 2036, which discourages settlement sprawls as it is costly and unsustainable to maintain.
It is anticipated that the exercise will be completed in the second quarter of the 2022,” he added.
Maun East MP, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile, had asked the minister to brief Parliament on progress made in implementing resolutions adopted and passed by NWDC and state the number of resolutions passed to the ministry, those implemented as well as the status of incorporation of Mochaba into Shorobe, Xhana into Chanoga and Xhaoga into Nxamasere.
