MmathetheBray Werda road construction to start in 2023
23 Mar 2022
Construction of Mmathethe-Bray-Werda road is expected to commence in June 2023, after the engineering design, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been concluded.
In response to a parliamentary question on March 22, transport and communications minister, Mr Thulagano Segokgo said delivery schedules of the engineering design and EIA were earmarked for end of March 2023.
Mr Segokgo acknowledged the status of Mmathethe-Bray-Werda road, which he said was assessed on March 17 and found to be in good drivable condition, except within the Mmathethe village, where there were bad corrugations.
To make the road accessible, he said, the ministry graded it once every quarter, adding that the last grading was done end of last year and would be done again next month.
“Currently there is no need to have the road re-gravelled due to the fact that construction is planned to commence shortly,” he said.
Kgalagadi South MP, Mr Sam Brooks wanted to know if there was a short term plan to make the Mmathethe-Bray-Werda road accessible, owing to its status.
Mr Brooks also wanted to know when construction of the said road would commence, given that it was in the 11th National Development Plan mid-term review. ENDS
