WUC donates to Tshesebe Makaleng communities

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has donated two bus shelters worth over P68 000 to Tshesebe and Makaleng communities in the North East District.

Speaking at the handing over of the donations at Tshesebe and Makaleng respectively on Tuesday, WUC Strategy and Corporate Affairs director, Mr Peter Sedingwe said the donation was part of the corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

He explained that each bus stop shelter cost over P34 000, adding that the relationship of WUC and residents of the two villages stemmed in the realisation that commuters sometimes endured harsh weather conditions due to lack of bus shelters.

“In the absence of the bus shelters, commuters in Tshesebe and Makaleng as well as  surrounding villages have no place to seek refuge from rains, scotching sunny days and other bad weather conditions such as winter winds while waiting for the next bus or taxi,” said Mr Sedingwe.

He explained that such a situation prompted WUC to embark on a bus shelter project.

“This bus shelters will not benefit only the residents of the two villages, but all commuters using the A1 highway and Makaleng road.

The craft, design of the bus shelters will make waiting for a bus and or taxi a pleasant and interesting experience, with your eyes feeding from varieties of the corporation’s key messages branded on the shelters,” he added.

Mr Sedingwe, however, said it was the responsibility of the residents in the two villages to take care of the gifts to ensure that they benefitted even future generations.

“That can only be achieved by condemning and reporting all acts of vandalism on the bus shelters and keeping the message intact for others to share,” he added.

The director further thanked the Tshesebe and Masunga WUC teams for the noble gesture.

In Tshesebe, Kgosi Motlotlegi Kachana and area councillor, Smarts Mathonsi expressed gratitude towards the corporation for its generosity and appealed to the residents to take care of the shelter for their own good. ENDS
