Stakeholders relations should be meaningful
14 Mar 2022
A meaningful and positive relationship between teachers, students and parents is important, but it should start with parents.
Parents should teach their children the right ways in terms of good conduct and morals. Speaking during the Tswapong Bokone Brigade (TBB) Class of 2021 prize-giving in Lerala on Friday, general manager, Operations at Makoro Bricks and Tiles Ms Dorcus Mosesha emphasised the importance of a strong family institution which she said produced a well-disciplined child.
Ms Mosesha encouraged parents, teachers and students to work as a team in order to produce skilled human capital for the betterment of the economy.
She said education and skills were the basis of human resource development as they provided students with competencies that enabled them to compete globally as government was moving from resource-based to a knowledge-based economy.
She encouraged students to aim high so that they could be employers and entrepreneurs noting that programmes currently offered at Vocational Training Institutions were part of scarce skills, especially in the mining, textiles and manufacturing sectors.
For her part, Tswapong Bokone Brigade Principal Ms Toyi Mukani said the event came at a time when the awardees achieved their goals amid serious challenges of COVID-19 which negatively affected teaching and learning.
Ms Mukani said the intention was to award academic excellence and instill the spirit of competition among all learners which stems from the belief that fair competition could lead to excellent results.
Ms Mukani mentioned that the institution had initially set up a target of 70 per cent pass rate that was cascaded down to classrooms for lecturers and learners.
She commended the brigade for the 69.5 per cent pass which was rounded to 70 per cent displayed in the 2021 results through which the institution attained position 6 out of 35 brigades and 4 technical colleges offering certificate programmes.
She explained that despite the good performance, they were faced with shortage of resources. Ends
