Government communicators strategise

10 Mar 2022

Information transforms peoples’ lives, so said  deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration at a government communicators workshop in Francistown on Tuesday.

The meeting was meant for the public relation officers to deliberate on how to effectively deliver on their mandate in line with government’s intension to consult, involve and engage Batswana in the economic development.

Mr William Sentshebeng observed at the highest and political levels, government continued to show support and recognition of its communications function, hence the creation of a permanent secretary position exclusively for government communications.

The move, he said, was meant to ensure that information about what government was doing for its people was shared in a manner that was beneficial, efficient and effective.

He said participants were to develop a performance plan that would guide the officers to strategically navigate the next financial year and implement key objectives as a collective as well as to be fully responsive to the needs of the nation.

“The plan will draw from key national strategy documents such as the National Vision 2036, the National Development Plan, Government Reset Agenda and the Economic Recovery Transformation Plan,” he said.

For her part, the acting permanent secretary in the Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Ms Goitsemang Morekisi said communication officers should share information in a way that neutralised negativity and kept the nation calm. ENDS
