Francistown District Commissioner officers have been hailed for donating P900 worth of stationery to Tshimologo Stimulation Centre, a school of children with disabilities.
Receiving the donation at the centre on Friday, the School Principal Ms Ame Nkatse said every little donation was needed to make the learning environment as friendly as possible.
She said the school enrolled children with various physical and learning disabilities aged two to 12 years.
The donation comprised colouring books, crayons, pencils, rubbers and rulers.
“This donation will be put to good use and the children will be more than grateful as learning will now be exciting for them,” she said.
She said the donation would enable them fulfil their mandate of providing better education to the needy. The centre is owned and operated by The Botswana Red Cross and has similar centres in Tlokweng and Sefhare.
Principal District Officer- Development at District Administration Mr Boyce Mangole said it was important to remember that children with disabilities always required special treatment and care.
He said the People With Disability would forever be remembered and remain the priority of the city leadership, who would ensure that they never lacked basic necessities.
Mr Mangole said the disabled should not be abandoned or forgotten when giving out donations.
The importance of ensuring that these children also receive the right to education, he said was the reason for the society to take note of how best to tend to their needs.
“The District Administration Office will always consider them as equally capable of being tomorrow’s leaders and economic developers of the country in areas they are gifted and talented in,” he added.
Mr Mangole also applauded the school staff for the work they do with patience in educating those with special needs.
He urged them to continue building the minds and brains that would change the world and go against the odds.
Mr Mangole encouraged them to consider themselves significant in closing the gap by believing in people with disabilities and equipping them with knowledge. ENDS
