Makwinja commends Mahupu for academic excellence

The Assistant Minister of Basic Education Ms Nnaniki Makwinja has commended Mahupu Unified Secondary School for obtaining third position in 2021 BGCSE results.
The Takatokwane based school, in Kweneng region scored 31.31 per cent outperforming 30 schools across the country.
Speaking at the Kweneng Regional Operations appreciation lunch for Mahupu Unified School Staff recently, Ms Makwinja said the school’s steady rise of academic performance since 2018 was testament of how teamwork, commitment could achieve in a short period of time.
She said since 2018 there had been a notable improvement in the school’s performance, scoring 17.67 to 21.08 per cent in 2019 at position seven, a position they maintained in 2020 but an improved score of 26.54 per cent.
She encouraged them to continue being a shining example and aiming higher, to prove that it was possible to compete with schools in towns and bigger villages, which were perceived to be better performers.
The assistant minister said with discipline, good leadership, mentoring and coaching, learners would be motivated and inspired to achieve the vision through Operation Maduo, an initiative by Kweneng Regional Operations to improve performance across schools.
Ms Makwinja said her ministry was implementing the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP) which focused on 11 broad but critical education priorities which when reformed would take education to global standards.
“Among these is Priority No 7 which focuses on improving management of education, which emphasises professional development and this include even the in-house, in-service like your very own Operation Maduo”.
Giving words of encouragement, the Director of Kweneng Regional Operations Mr Steve Bothasitse said the event was meant to celebrate the sterling performance the school has achieved.
He said such did not come cheap as a lot of hard work, commitment and team work was put in by both teachers and pupils to achieve the results.
Mr Bothasitse further said Operation Maduo initiative was bearing fruits and would improve the work ethic going forward.
He said16 teachers scored 80 percent and above in different subjects with Art and Setswana Subjects obtaining first position. ENDS
