03 Mar 2022
The Ministry of Health and Wellness has commenced the use of digital vaccination certificates with focus on nationals travelling to countries requiring such certificates.
The ministry’s Principal Public Relations Officer Dr Christopher Nyanga said in an interview that use of the digital certificate started on February 16 and issuance was currently centralised at the ministry headquarters.
“The ministry is already facilitating members of the public travelling to countries requiring digital vaccination certificates,” he said He explained the certificate allowed for access to vaccination information including the vaccine the traveller took and the dates on which it was administered.
Dr Nyanga said the digital vaccination certificates had QR codes, which helped to verify the validity of information about the traveller.
He further said the certificate was available both in both hard and soft copy and could be loaded on a portable gadget such as a cell phone, for easy scanning by barcode readers.
“Our plan is to roll out the certificate to all District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) across the country in the near future,” he said Dr Nyanga stated that they were currently working on the Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure at national level to facilitate districts to efficiently process the certificates.
He advised all those travelling to countries requiring digital vaccination certificates to contact the ministry headquarters. Ends
