Storm ravages Sowa

03 Mar 2022

Two Nxakato Junior Secondary School pupils suffered injuries, while one was bitten by a scorpion that fell from the trees that were blown by the winds as a heavy storm hit Sowa Town on Wednesday afternoon.

The storm left the streets covered with uprooted trees while one house needed structural repairs, but none of the occupants were injured when a giant tree fell on its roof.

In an interview yesterday, Sowa Town Deputy District Commissioner, Mr Tsaone Nkarabang said they experienced strong winds accompanied by rain in the afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30, which uprooted many trees in the mining town.

He, however, noted that there were no serious damages to property, as most of the trees fell on roads and entrances to residential places, save for power cut at Nxakato Junior School.

He said the authorities Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) as fallen power lines posed danger to the school community, particularly the pupils. He commended BPC for swiftly responding to the call and restoring electricity. ENDS
