Escanor donates to pupils
01 Mar 2022
A Gaborone based youth-owned company on Saturday donated toiletries and school bags worth over P30 000 to Mookane and Dikgathong junior secondary schools in Kudumatse.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Escanor managing director, Mr Damelin Motlogelwa said he found it fit to donate toiletries to the two schools to help improve the pupils’ livelihoods.
He said the idea of donating followed a visit to the two boarding schools in 2020, adding that the situation was heart breaking.
Noting that situations that pupils found themselves in negatively affected their academic performance, Mr Motlogelwa said they found it prudent to do what they could to not only assist, but motivate the learners to perform better.
He said although small, their generous act would assist government in providing for the citizenry.
He urged other companies to also assist the community within which they operated, as they contributed to the growth of their companies.
Mr Motlogelwa noted that his company would continue helping across the country.
In her welcome remarks, Mookane JSS teacher, Ms Kebone Gasentsima said the school, with 720 pupils, 98 percent of whom receive help from community development and social welfare department and
Remote Area Development Programme, was not performing well.
Ms Gasentsima said in the 2020 Junior Certificate results, they obtained 17 per cent and 19.3 per cent in 2021.
He, therefore, said the donation would go a long way in motivating the children to do better.
Ms Gasentsima expressed gratitude to the company for doing its bit to improve the livelihood of the pupils, as that would help improve the schools’ academic performance.
A student representative, Caroline Chipeka expressed gratitude to Escanor, noting that not all parents could afford their children. Ends
