Consultations on the District Development Plan Nine (DDP9) will help improve understanding of development planning processes by the general public.

Speaking during the Goodhope sub-District council virtual meeting on Monday, the chairperson Mr Boniface Leshomo said the sub council consultations, which also enhanced transparency covered the National Development Plan 12.

Mr Leshomo said in the sub district plan they had prioritised projects such as the construction of Phitshane-Molopo police station with staff houses, upgrading of Goodhope primary hospital to a district referral facility and upgrading of health posts.

Furthermore, he cited upgrading of some roads to bitumen standard.

These included Mmathethe-Metlobo-Jwaneng, Goodhope-Kgoro-Gathwane and Borobadilepe-Hebron roads amongst others.

“We are hopeful that our request will be acceded to and the plan will run from April 2023 to March 2029”, he said.

Mr Leshomo also explained that the sub district had registered 1 696 beneficiaries under the poverty eradication programme involved in 1 457 projects.

Among these 1 329 were fully funded while 128 were partially funded, he said.

He lamented that the sub-district continued to experience an increase in the number of domestic violence cases.

The chairperson said violent acts had left emotional, physical and psychological scars on victims and also created an environment not conducive for the upbringing of children.

He said, “49 cases have been registered and a total of 36 are of a sexual nature against children, 22 are of defilement while 14 are of rape.

Mr Leshomo also decried the poor academic performance at both primary and junior schools, saying they had recorded a decline this year. Ends
