No plans for mini stadium in Letlhakeng
27 Feb 2022
Parliament has learnt that government has no plans to construct a mini stadium in the Letlhakeng Sub-district due to financial constraints.
Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Buti Billy said his ministry was aware of the importance of having such a facility in that locality.
He, however, noted that funds permitting, government would provide mini stadiums at sub-districts, including that of Letlhakeng.
Currently, Mr Billy said 10 mini stadium constructions were ongoing across the country.
In addition, he encouraged the community of Letlhakeng Sub-district to promote and engage in other sporting activities that would not necessarily be hampered by the absence of a mini stadium.
He appreciated that there were different sporting codes unique to some localities as it was the case with the annual horse race at Motokwe.
He said the activity had proved to be favoured by the community in that locality, therefore, it must be fully promoted.
The event has a large following, provides entertainment and empowers the youth of the locality in horse racing sport.
MP for Takatokwane, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe had asked the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development to state when a mini stadium would be constructed in the Letlhakeng Sub-district to encourage sport development in the area. ends
