Mahalapye Sub-District has, from February this year, registered a gradual decline in the number of COVID-19 positive cases, Mahalapye District Health Management Team coordinator has said.
Updating the ongoing fourth session of the sub-district virtual meeting on COVID-19 situation, Ms Thandie Kgosiesele explained that the sub-district started experiencing a decline in COVID-19 positive cases November last year.
She said the discovery of the Omicron variant resulted in a surge in the number of cases from December last year to January.
Ms Kgosiesele said the recent decline in positive cases could be attributed to the ongoing rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.Since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, Ms Kgosiesele said the sub-district registered a cumulative 15 049 COVID-19 positive cases, 14 598 recoveries and 184 deaths.
