Financial crisis bedevils Boteti Sub-district
24 Feb 2022
Boteti Sub-district Council continues to deliver its mandate under dire financial burden, chairperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe said during the sub-council session on Monday in Letlhakane.
Mr Galeragwe stated that the council closed 2020/2021 financial year with a deficit of P41 964 615, which persistently accumulated from financial year 2012-2013.
It was evident that relief of destitute persons, gas, water, petrol, lubricants, food and accommodation were among those that contributed to the deficit over the sampled years.
He indicated that due to national budget cuts, the council was constrained to budget for funding for the likes of relief of destitute persons, children in need of care, school books, security services and Remote Area Dwellers food and accommodation.
He stated that incurred expenses worsened the already existing cash flow problem.
During the 2021/2022 financial year, relief of destitute persons was allocated P13 167 190 to provide for 1 500 clients.
The programme was, however, assisting 2 561 clients.
Food rations expenditure as at the end of January 2022 stood at P17 991 785.
Mr Galeragwe stated that lighting gas had over expenditure of P2 178 430, relief of destitute persons had a negative balance of P4 251 339, while security services had an over-expenditure of P1 659 957.
He noted that with 2021/2022 financial year closing, a cumulative deficit of P46 million was anticipated to be incurred, based on the current financial situation. Ends
