22 Oct 2013
Morupule Cycling Club will on Sunday hold the fourth annual charity cycle challenge in Serowe.
The club started the race in 2010 with the aim of contributing to the less fortunate members of the community using proceeds from sponsorship. Already, the club has donated almost P200 000 to charitable beneficiaries. The chairperson of the club, Frank Wooky said proceeds from the sponsorship of the race would benefit Sehunou Primary School. The event entailed 100km and 58km cycling races for both males and females.
The 58km race will kick start at Boiteko Junction up to Khama Rhino Sanctuary and back to the starting point whilst the 100km race will start at Boiteko Junction past Khama Rhino Sanctuary up to a point near Mmashoro well fields and concluding at the start point. Wooky said the race is expected to attract multitudes of cyclers from local cycling clubs and outside the country.
The 50 member Morupule Cycling Club was formed in 2009 with a view to improving the level of fitness and wellbeing of members. He urged members of the public, especially Serowe, Palapye and surrounding areas, to give cyclers support. He also added that the event is classified as a Road Race National Championship by the Botswana Cycling Association. ENDS
