All people living in the country should take part in the March 18-31 population and housing census as data gathered is crucial for advancing the country’s development agenda.

Making the appeal in an interview on Monday, Statistics Botswana, Senior Documentation and Dissemination officer Ms Nametso Kgosiyame said people should answer questions as comprehensive as possible and be open as the information gathered would determine the population and its demographic and geographic patterns.

She explained that the total count of the country’s population helped government to make informed decisions on planning, project funding as well as formulation of policies.

She emphasised that demographic and geographic data was not only useful to the public sector but beneficial to the private sector as well citing that it motivated the establishment of businesses.

The exercise, she said would start at 6am to 8pm to cover those who are working.

She stated that enumerators could be identified by uniforms bearing Statistics Botswana logo and the enumerator would present a letter and identification on arrival, and for further clarification one  could contact toll free number:  0800 600 200. BOPA
