14 Feb 2022
Preliminary works for resealing and marking of the Tsabong-Middlepits 80km road stretch have started.
Department of Roads acting chief engineer, Mr Tumelo Lesole said in an interview that the contractor was handed the site on February 2 to start the project worth P34 million.
He said the tender for the project which was among the infrastructural projects earmarked for Kgalagadi district for completion in the 2022/2023 financial year was the first to be awarded. Limousine construction company site agent, Ms Keoikantse Motsaatlhobolo said part of preliminary works included measurements for treatment of potholes and estimated that it would take about five months to complete the repairs.
“Our boots are still fresh on the ground. We are at resources mobilization stage,” she said.
The project will employ about 20 people from local communities who will mend potholes, maintain road edges, and clear grass on edge of the road side.
Ms Motsaatlhobolo said once the road pre-treatment was complete, they would spread the bitumen in two phases, place aggregates and mark the road at completion stage.
“We have submitted our labour needs to village development committees,” she said. ENDs
