Dikgotla grading depends on population size
14 Feb 2022
The criteria used to grade Dikgotla and the level of staffing depends on the village population size and the volume of trial cases in the area.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele explained to Parliament that some villages which are staffed with two or more positions of Dikgosi have on average a population size of 2 000
The assistant minister, who was responding to a question from Sefhare-Ramokgonami Member of Parliament, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang, said Chadibe village did not meet the criteria as it fell under Sefhare catchment area. Chadibe is assisted by Sefhare whenever there are cases that require a Kgosi with a higher warrant, he said.
He however noted that his ministry was currently going through the restructuring process, developing and determining staffing norms for Tribal Administration, which includes Dikgotla.
Dr Gobotswang had asked the minister why Chadibe main kgotla was the only kgotla headed by one headman of records.
He also wanted to know the criteria used to grade Dikgotla and level of staffing and if there were any plans to upgrade the status of Chadibe kgotla to have two dikgosi. ENDs
