Giving helps attain Vision 2016

22 Oct 2013

Giving support will help government attain the Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation, says the Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Gloria Somolekae.

Speaking at a donation by northern region women of United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital, Dr Somolokae said through giving, the President’s call to provide for the less privileged to restore their dignity could be fulfilled.

The donation comprised 32 pillows, nine blankets, four bathing soaps, one baby blanket and 115 night dresses of different sizes. She said the gesture from the church symbolised that both calls of dignity and Vision 2016 had fallen on good soil.

Dr Somolekae said, “the gesture you have shown today affirms that indeed you are a church that knows its identity as your faith has been shown by your works.”

The assistant minister noted that for one to be called a Christian, there should be an identity that separates one from the world he or she lived in and through their giving, they would bring a positive change to the lives of those around them and the nation at large.

Furthermore, she said due to the important role the women in the church of today played, it would help the country go far as it would bring a positive change in the community. Dr Somolokae urged the church to continue with the spirit of giving to the communities and availing itself when need arose.

The secretary for the church, Ms Nkeme Segalabeng said the gesture emanated from their yearly set standard of playing a positive role in the community they live in. Ms Segalabeng said they decided to hand over the donation at the hospital as it also accorded them the opportunity to pray for the workers and patients.

The hospital's chief nursing officer, Mr Humphrey Tshabanga said the church should not take their gesture for granted because a small gift to a person who is sick can be a great relieve. He said through the church`s prayers, the hospital staff is encouraged to hold on firmly as the community supports them. ENDS
