Trio has two dikgosi positions
13 Feb 2022
Pilikwe, Kalamare and Machaneng have two positions of dikgosi although they are lower than Chadibe as the latter village falls under Sefhare catchment area and will therefore not have the same staffing levels like Sefhare.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele, said this when responding to a question from Sefhare-Ramokgonami lawmaker on Thursday.
Mr Modukanele said the criteria used to grade customary courts and the level of staffing depended on the village population size and the volume of trial cases in the area. He said his ministry was going through the restructuring process which included dikgotla.
The assistant minister said Chadibe was assisted by Sefhare whenever there were cases that required a chief with a higher warrant, noting that his ministry would continue to upgrade dikgotla funds permitting.
Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang had asked the minister to state the names of villages smaller than Chadibe staffed with two positions of dikgosi in the Mahalapye Sub-district. He further wanted to know the criteria used to grade dikgotla and the level of staffing and if there were any plans to upgrade the status of the Chadibe kgotla to have at least two chiefs. ENDs
