Jwaneng Town Council (JTC) aerobics club in conjunction with Rackets and -ports Debswana club held a Pre Valentine’s Day wellness bootcamp in Jwaneng on Saturday.
One of the organisers, Ms Mercy Ntlhaeletsang shared in an interview that one of the objectives of the event was to bring love among members of the community as well as nurture bonding between couples.
“That is why most of our activities were done in pairs,” she said.
She said they decided to move the event to a weekend pre-valentine since Valentine’s Day was midweek to give more people an opportunity to participate.
Ms Ntlhaeletsang said they found it necessary to extend their mandate to the community to bring awareness on the importance of keeping fit.
Another organiser, Mr Aaron Mokgosi of JTC aerobics club said their plan was to hold the event on a monthly basis to ensure consistency among participants.
“We are happy that people came out in a good number for our first event. Our target was 60 people, but we managed about 56, which is not bad. We will not be targeting only members of the two clubs, as individuals are welcome,” he said.
He also appreciated stakeholders who came on board, such as Edmol (PTY) ltd who provided free sound system, Mloza Enterprises, R&B Solutions a well as Alona Beauty Spa who assisted with free towels, refreshments and massage to participants respectively.
The event covered vital health issues on healthy diet, screening of non-communicable diseases like HIV and AIDS, diabetes and high blood pressure by the District Health Management Team. Some of the activities included aqua-aerobics, tyre drills, circuit training as well as tug-of-war. ENDS
