There is an ongoing plan to maintain the dilapidated tribal administration offices and kgotla shelters across the country.Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Talita Monnakgotla said her ministry was determined to attend to all maintenance works, but was hampered by financial constraints.
The assistant minister said Ghanzi South was allocated P300 000 for maintenance of five houses; two at Charleshill, one each at Kole, Karakubis and Kalkfontein. Ms Monnakgotla said maintenance works at tribal offices in Bere, Chobokwane and Kacgae was also ongoing.
She however said funds permitting, her ministry would consider construction of shelters with ablution blocks for headmen of arbitration at their wards. Ghanzi South MP, Mr Motsamai Motsamai, had asked the assistant minister if she was aware of the general state of disrepair of the tribal administration offices and kgotla shelters around the country.
He also wanted to know if there was a maintenance plan for renovation of the offices and kgotla shelters, and if any plans were available to construct kgotla shelters with ablution blocks for headmen of arbitration at their respective areas.ENDS
