Officers must show integrity

Procurement and revenue officers have been urged to show integrity and excellent customer service in their job to preserve Botswana’s reputation of prudent financial management.
This was said by Mr Mpho Radifalana, performance improvement coordinator at Kgalagadi Land Board at a dinner organised for revenue and procurement officers in Tsabong last week. Mr Radifalana commended the members of staff of the two offices for a job well done and encouraged them to work as a team and deliver beyond expectations.
“You must work as a team and maintain a spirit of sacrifice. Of course proper supervision is a fundamental aspect of service delivery and cannot be overemphasised. The ultimate goal is to have a satisfied customer,” said Mr Radifalana.
He praised members of staff in the finance ministry for their exceptional achievement as the ministry’s performance rating catapulted from position 13 to position one. The mMinistry attained first position in a ministerial performance survey done by the National Strategy Office.
Another speaker, businessman, Mr Tshipietsile Mothelesi commended the ministry for introducing electronic funds transfer, saying the development augured well with modern times. The ministry’s staff were also commended for adhering to set financial regulations and not misappropriating government funds.
“As far as I know, none of you has been indicted for misappropriating government funds. That is commendable because in other countries public servants who deal with government finances have been tried for embezzling and looting government coffers,” he said.
Mr Mothelesi urged public servants to commit to the idea of a prosperous Botswana and avoid corrupt practises as they will only draw the country backwards.
For his part, treasury cashier manager, Mr Ikanyeng Mbulawa said their achievement was proof that members of staff are serving their customers with due diligence. He encouraged his colleagues to continue to strive for excellence and ensure that customers leave government offices with smiles on their faces. ENDS
