Leero joins Public Service Commission
03 Feb 2022
Mr Samuel Leero, who was yesterday sworn in as a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC), brings with him requisite experience for the assignment, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has said.
Speaking during the swearing in ceremony at Office of the President, he said Mr Leero was adequately equipped to undertake the commission’s work.
“Mr Leero brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of being a mediator and arbitrator within the ambit of the Trade Disputes Act. I expect that he will hit the ground running as the work of the commission pertains to matters which comfortably fall with the purview of his excellent expertise,” Dr Masisi said.
Armed with an LLM majoring in employment law and practice from University of Glamorgan, United Kingdom and a BSc Honours Sociology with Industrial Relations from the University of Bath, Mr Leero has served government in various capacities including as an assistant commissioner of labour and principal industrial officer.
He owns a consultancy company advising and training on labour laws, crafting of conditions of employment as well as private mediation and arbitration of labour disputes.
Turning to PSC, President Masisi described it as an important institution in the mediation of labour disputes within the civil service.
“The commission plays a key role in helping to safeguard and ensure that as public officers go about their daily work of diligently serving the nation, they are treated fairly by their supervisors.
It offers public officers the forum to have any grievances that they feel have not been sufficiently addressed at work, to be ventilated by an independent body,” Dr Masisi said.
He said the PSC was established under Section 9 of the Constitution of Botswana which prescribes that its members, comprising a chairperson and no less than two others, should be appointed and sworn in by the President.
Mr Leero joins chairperson, Ms Keorapetse Boepetswe and Mr Ikotlhaeng Bagopi in the commission. Ends
