 Residents of Ledumadumane East will on Saturday cast their votes to elect a councillor.


The by-election follows the death of Councillor Otlaadisa Kgwatalala in October last year.


The by-election is contested for by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).


The duo recently completed their internal processes of electing candidates, whom they unveiled last weekend.


The BDP will be represented by Mr Thato Kgwatalala, while Mr Simon Moipolai will represent the UDC.


In the 2019 general elections, the council seat was won by the late Mr Kgwatalala under the BDP ticket, with Mr Moipolai as the first runner up.


The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it was ready for the by-election.


IEC acting chief public relations officer, Ms Idah Seoforeng said Ledumadumane East polling district had 1 320 registered voters.


There are three polling stations namely; Moamogwe Primary School, Kgwanyape kgotla and Ledumadumane kgotla, and the counting centre will be Moamogwe Primary school.


The polling stations are expected to open at 6:30 in the morning and close at seven in the evening.ENDS
