Employees of the Department of Technical Services in the Ministry of Lands and Housing started constructing a two bed-roomed house for Ms Manini Molosi of Lekgolobotlo in the Southern District on Friday (October 18).
Born in 1929, Ms Molosi has been accommodated by her relatives who also sleep in a congested hut. She has children who also stay with relatives and her only source of livelihood is governments’ monthly food basket.
Department of Technical Services official, Ms Mini Manamela indicated that after hearing the President’s Housing Appeal message, they were encouraged to live one of the Vision 2016’s pillars, of a compassionate, just and caring nation. Ms Manamela explained that the beneficiary was identified by the Village Development Committee (VDC) members and the Social and Community Development Department.
She said they raised money from selling cool drinks, snacks and also contributing from their own personal finances. Department of Technical Services director, Mr Densil Buchanan, who was busy working during the day, said they are planning to finish the house by the end of December.
He said they raised about P25 000 from 31 senior officers since they started the project. Appreciating the gesture, Ms Molosi praised the department’s employees for showing the spirit of compassion; and said she will stay in the house alone. Focal person Ms Mmabontle Maplanka pointed out that they are building the house themselves. ENDS
