Four Selebi Phikwe Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) have made it to the national top 10 in the just released Junior Certificate examinations.

Meepong JSS scooped position one with a 76.4 per cent pass rate.

Last year the school was in position two .

Makhubu, Phatsimo and Lebogang JSS scooped positions four, six and eight respectively.

“The results did not come as a surprise because we put extra effort to attain position one,” said Meepong JSS head, Ms Dorcas Olebile in an interview.

She noted that they had been number two since 2017 with Orapa and Nanogang alternating at the apex.

She said although her school was tied with Orapa JSS, they managed to scoop position one because no pupil was graded X.

She also noted that only 33 pupils attained D grade while three obtained grade U.

Orapa JSS registered two X grades, five Us and 41 Ds.

Ms Olebile said they have created a high performance culture at the school and that everybody, including non-teaching staff, worked hard towards the goal.

Ms Olebile, who has been transferred  to Selebi Phikwe Senior Secondary School, urged teachers and pupils to maintain the high performance culture and to improve in the 2022 examinations.

Chief education officer, Mr Tshwarelo Hosia said the good performance of Selebi Phikwe schools should be nurtured and maintained by stakeholders.

He also noted that all the 11 primary schools in Selebi Phikwe performed well in the 2021 Primary School Leaving examinations.

“All our schools from primary to secondary are doing well and there is a good exchange of the baton,” he said.

He attributed the success of schools in Selebi Phikwe to good leadership. “Where there is strong leadership, learners tend to do well,” he said.

Mr Hosia also noted that all the six Selebi Phikwe junior secondary schools made it to the Central region top 10.

He praised Lebogang JSS for improving from 38.7 per cent in 2020 to 65.6 per cent in 2021. Ends
