Masisi calls for self-empowerment

21 Oct 2013

The Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has called on his ministry staff to embark on self-empowerment programmes and not depend exclusively on their monthly salary.

Speaking at the just-ended workshop for the Office of the President auxiliary staff in Gaborone, Minister Masisi said government workers should engage in programmes which could sustain their lives and those of their families. He said as the country was going through hardships, workers should do what was within their power to actively improve their lives through various schemes.

Minister Masisi also urged officers to remain committed to their work and to ensure the ministry achieved its mandate as well as goals and it should score high marks during the performance review.

Welcoming participants, deputy permanent secretary (corporate affairs), Mr Arnold Madikwe said the workshop objectives included enhancing skills and empowering the industrial class employees through career and employee empowerment programmes.

He encouraged employees to dream big, adding that acquiring knowledge and skills empowered one to progress to a higher level. “Enhancing skills and empowering our employees will not only benefit you as individuals but will also help you a great deal in improving service delivery to our customers,” he stressed.

Mr Madikwe said it was against this background that the workshop, which covered amongst others, mindset change, business development, health issues and programmes offered by various institutions of learning, was organised. ENDS
