Constant power cuts worry Thamaga residents
27 Jan 2022
Thamaga residents have complained about the frequent power cuts in the village.
They told a kgotla meeting addressed by Thamaga/Kumakwane MP, Mr Palelo Motaosane on Wednesday that the power cuts did not only damage their goods, but also negatively affected their businesses.
Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) Senior Customer Service Officer, Ms Boingotlo Therego, acknowledged the power cuts, saying there were numerous causes, including maintenance or replacement of transformers and poles, as well as roads accidents.
Ms Therego also fingered cable theft, saying during rainy or stormy days, thieves stole the earth wire, which was a protective cover for electricity.
In an interview with BOPA, she said that 16 cable theft cases had been recorded in Thamaga.
She also revealed that there had been instances where some residents tried to bypass metres to get free electricity, which she said was dangerous as it could destroy the houses or put lives in danger.
“You might burn yourself or your house down, therefore, I strongly advise you to refrain yourself from such activities,” Ms Therego warned.
Mr Motaosane informed residents that it was their responsibility to report the culprits to the rightful authorities as their acts negatively affected the community. BOPA
