24 Jan 2022

Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Air Arm Command recently donated goods to Letlhakeng Primary School. Handing over the donation, Air Arm Commander, Major General Hendrick Rakgantswana said the five computers, four printers, 700 sanitary pads, 90 pairs of shoes and sporting codes equipment were donated by Thebephatshwa Airbase soldiers.

He said the soldiers also engaged the private sector for assistance, with Mr Yang Yipin, vice president of the Chinese Association in Botswana, donating 90 pairs of shoes and 700 sanitary pads while the director of Log Movers Group, Mr Chen Yingjun donated different sporting  equipment.

Major General Rakgantswana said the primary school would forever be in their hearts as one of their aircrafts crashed into the school in October 20, 2011.

Major General Rakgantswana said the incident traumatised pupils and teachers and that they would continue to provide psycho-social support.

He said they were also grateful to Bakwena for offering them land to build Thebephatshwa Airbase.

He noted that they offered their services to communities near them and reached out to schools and needy people.

The school head, Ms Judith Mogwera said the donation would improve the school’s performance.

She said they faced a number of challenges such as shortage of classrooms, the lack of a school library and an assembly shelter to protect them against harsh weather conditions as well as a counselling office.

She requested for a tower light to help deter criminals and to ease their movement in the evening.

Principal education officer, Ms Chenesani Joseph welcomed the gifts, saying they were faced with a shortage of funds to meet the needs of all schools.

She noted that the sub-district had 25 primary schools, one satellite primary school and three secondary schools.

Assistant council secretary, Mr Tumelo Seboko said he was happy that the BDF had reached out to the school, and that computers were critical in the information and technology era. ENDS
