Boro primary school in offing

23 Jan 2022

Construction a primary school for lower classes in Boro, a settlement in the outskirts of Maun, will soon start. Maun West MP, Mr Dumelang Saleshando informed resident during a Kgotla meeting in Boro Wednesday.

Residents have over the years complained about lack of a primary school in the area.

Mr Saleshando said the plan was to use the P10 million Constituency Development Fund due in the next financial year, to improve education in Maun West Constituency, and a primary school for Boro featured among top priorities.

He explained that the Constituency Development Fund had been suspended since 2020 due to COVID-19. Mr Salishando said construction of the school would be financed through funds from previous Constituency Development Funds that were shelved as projects were halted due to COVID-19.

He noted that children from Boro remained at risk as they travelled long distances to attend schools in Maun.

On other issues, Mr Saleshando urged residents to take part in the population census, as it would help determine developments for their area.

In her remarks, Boro Village Development Committee (VDC) Chairperson, Ms Catherine Dichaba said they were waiting in anticipation for the school that was long promised.

Ms Dichaba said residents were also concerned by lack of plots allocation by Tawana Land Board, even though their village had been mapped. For his part, Kgosi Motswagole Mokgwathi complained about lack of a proper road connecting Boro and Maun. He said the existing dirt road was in a bad condition as it tended to become muddy and developed huge puddles during the rainy seasons. ENDS
