23 Jan 2022
The Central District Council (CDC) on Friday swore-in four councillors who were elected in the recent by-elections.
The newly elected councillors are Mr Oliver Nnyatse for Nkange North ward under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Mr David Ikanyeng of Tamasane ward representing Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF),
Mr Mothusi Molodi of Khwae ward in Boteti East representing the UDC and Mr Tumisang Batwaetse of Tumasera/Seleka ward of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
After being sworn-in, Mr Nnyatseng promised to fight for the development of his ward, saying there was acute shortage of water in Nkange.
He said the roads were also in a bad state and there was shortage of accommodation for civil servants.
He also promised to work cooperatively with other councillors in the district.
For his part Mr Molodi of Khwae ward said his mandate was to revive committees such as the Village Development Committee (VDC), Farmers committee and health committees.
He said his ward was a settlement and that residents depended on the assistance of Social and Community Development (S&CD).
Mr Ikanyeng of Tamasane also promised to revive non-functioning village committees and to work with them towards the development of their village.
Welcoming them, CDC council chairperson, Mr Ketshwereng Galeragwe told them that they belonged to the biggest council in the country with 174 councillors, 17 constituencies and seven sub-councils.
He also told them that an orientation workshop would be conducted for them so that they could understand council standing orders, code of conduct and local government and rural development acts.
He advised them to work jointly with other councillors and to learn council procedures. Ends
