18 Jan 2022
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, accompanied by First Lady Neo Masisi and Minister of Agriculture Development and Food Security Mr Karabo Gare yesterday visited the Mpedi family of Moshupa who lost five children in a drowning incident on January 13.
The four girls and a boy, all aged around seven, drowned in Mosope River and their floating bodies were found by a passerby in the afternoon of the same day.
Describing the incident as devastating, President Masisi said losing precious, innocent lives especially in the midst of a pandemic was a loss to the country as they were the future.
He encouraged the family to find comfort in their faith.
The President appealed to members of the public to accord the family the respect they deserved to deal with what he said was a sensitive issue.
He also urged people to continue adhering to COVID-19 protocols and cooperating with authorities to fight the pandemic.
Family representative Mr James Mpedinyana expressed gratitude for Dr Masisi’s presence and message of condolences saying even though the children’s death was terrible and hard to digest, they would find comfort in the President’s words.
The deceased will be buried in Moshupa on Saturday. Ends
