Wellness embraces all

South East District Team commemorated their workplace wellness event under the theme, ‘My Health My Pride.’
“As Health employees, we provide health care and so we ought to work as a team and be bold enough to take care of ourselves,” guest speaker, Dr Ali Nanjenu said. He urged workers to care for themselves and support others.
“Wellness does not only embrace oneself but also others’ feelings, the better the health the longer you can live,” Dr Nanjenu explained. For her part, Ms Maureen Mpho, from the Ministry of Health said this kind of event needs quality time as employees spend almost 40 hours of the week at work.
“If the workplace wellness programme is dormant, it may place a risk and cost on employees as well as the organisation,” she said. She also noted that wellness workplace committee should accurately determine the root cause of a non- performing employee than concluding without finding out why the employee is not performing to required standard.
“Debts, alcohol influence and stress may be reasons why employees are not working to the required standard which may force them to take sick leaves especially on Mondays and month end which leads to corruption”, Mpho explained. She said services such as aerobics, inter - district tournament and walking after hours make up wellness at work. ENDS
