Paradise singers donate to Phuduhudu residents

20 Oct 2013

Paradise Singers gospel group say they have started recognising the need to visit communities randomly to share the word of God and give  away what little they can afford.

Speaking at a ceremony to donate blankets, clothing and toiletry in Phuduhudu recently, Paradise Singers patron Ms Maosha Kerebotswe said their benevolence was in line with the Holy Bible in the book of James.

“In the book we are called to feel pity for the members of society who are not blessed one way or the other in terms of material possessions, spiritual and physical wellbeing,” she said. She said the gospel group was formed in April 1985 in Serowe within the Seventh Day Adventist Church, with the main objective of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through songs. The other objective was the desire to win people to the Christian faith according to the command of Jesus Christ, which says, “go therefore and preach the gospel to the whole world.”

The group has since added the motto of enjoyment, fellowship, rapport building, music study and the art of composition, said Ms Kerebotswe, adding that they spent this year’s Independence holidays at New Xade where they shared gospel songs and donated clothes and household utensils. She said they also held a concert in Ghanzi to raise funds for the orphaned children under the care of Ghanzi District Council.

They also visited Maun and Serowe where they raised funds for the construction of a house for a destitute person. Paradise Singers assist the Seventh Day Adventist churches in Botswana to complete the worship structures or churches. She also encouraged the community to partner with them in their effort to reach out to the various communities in Botswana, to fulfil the aspirations of Botswana Vision 2016.

The chairperson of the North West District Council, councillor Lathang Molonda said it was a great honour to see churches getting involved in national issues such as donations and prayers for HIV/AIDS and rain as the country is currently experiencing shortage of water.

Mr Molonda encouraged churches to continue with their prayers as troubles were plenty, such as Foot and Mouth Disease which is currently afflicting Ngamiland, extreme poverty and natural disasters. He encouraged Batswana to continue following the President ‘s footsteps as he leads by example in order to achieve all of the Vision 2016 pillars. ENDS
